EAT - MAJESTIC ROJAK & OTAK-OTAK @ JALAN SWATOW PENANG

by - Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Penang otak-otak is made in the Northern style - a style very much influenced by Thai cooking which has a similar dish known as hor mok - and differs from southern otak-otak in presentation, cooking method and taste.

Located @ Swatow Lane.

Helen Cheah learnt he recipe from her mother-in-law who used to run a fruit and rojak stall in Georgetown at the now-defunct Majestic theater. After 40 years, her mother-in-law retired; Helen and husband Loh Moon Kan have been operating Majestic Rojak for past 26 years. The couple move their business to swatow lane four years ago.

Homemade rojak sauce that you can bring home.

A variety choice of fruits.

Ha For @ RM1.00.

Majestic Rojak @ RM4.00. The fruits damn juicy and fresh. The sauce not too sweet and sticky. PEanut minced topped on the fruits make the rojak perfect. Majestic sauce is midly spicy and the rojak is topped with balacan powder, chili powder and finely ground peanuts.

Otak - otak (fish) @ RM2.00. The otak-otak made from fish meat. The smaller then the New World Park otak-otak. Normally sold out before afternoon. So, please make sure you grab it fast.

Overall I will vote:
7/10 for the service. Friendly especially aunty who sell the otak-otak.
8/10 for the food quality and quantity of the food excellent. A little bit expensive, but what ou can expect for the best otak-otak among the best.
7/10 for the environment. Just ordinary kopitiam.

10, New World Cafe,
Sin Se Kai,
Jalan Swataow,
Georgetown Penang.
